Where did email come from?
Email was created in 1971 by a man named Ray Tomlinson, an engineer. Ray was part of the team working on the Government's Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET), the precursor to today's internet.
Ray developed the @ symbol during his lunch hour! -- forever changing the way society communicates. He was tinkering around, trying to find a way to send messages to his colleagues, who were only a few desks away. The 'accidental' creation of the @ sign enabled the newly developed technologies to connect two messages -- creating electronic mail.
